Well we finally made it to Hawk Pride MX for Round 8 of the Koth Series.  The track is located on 1500 acres of “Offroaders Paradise” just a few miles to the south of HWY 72 near Tuscumbia, Alabama.  Actually one track with several local powersport dealers very close by, which can be handy if you break something on Saturday.

The Facilities

I must say we were impressed with everything at Hawk Pride from the restrooms to the concession stands this place was top notch.  The facility features seperate mens and womens restrooms with showers, a bike wash area, and a great concesion stand.  I believe this was the first weekend the concession stand was open, but they had it going on.  Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Nachos, Chili Cheese Fries, fountain drinks (Pepsi products), and bagged ice to name just a few of the items you could purchase.  They offered affordable combo deals as well.  I must add this was probably the best concession stand food we have had at a race track.

The Track

Ok so this is what everybody wants to know about…..right!  The track was awesome, about 1.3 miles free flowing, fast moving, alive and breathing motocross track.  I overhead Jason Perry (a season mx veteran) telling Mike Henn it was one of the best tracks he had ever been on.  I mentioned it was fast, here are some laptimes I clocked for some Koth riders:  Jake Lowry – A Class (1:27), Tristan Pickens – 250B (1:33), Ben Rose 65cc (2:02), Kiefer Martin 50cc (2:15).  All these times were taken at the end of the day in the second motos, the track was rough, and there were a lot of different lines out there to use (Note:  I don’t know if these were the fastest laps turned at Hawk Pride, but should give you a general idea of the speed of this track).

The track crew threw the water down all day Saturday and Sunday, but dust was still tough at times, but not as bad as a lot of tracks we go to.  The track offered good lines to inside and outside of its high bermed turns.  Lots of elevation changes and fast straights.  I really liked the way the lines and track changed during the day, this really mixed things and made everyone really work hard.  Some of the turns rutted up nicely, some didn’t, but this is typical of just about everywhere we go.

The layout, the jumps, and the turns really make this a track for all skill levels.  I think every rider that rode this track had a great time.  Even the PW’s looked like they were flying out there.

Conclusion

All in all this is going to be a first class MX track and facility.  The place hasn’t even been open a year, but it is really coming together nicely.  My son can’t wait to go back there.  Keep an eye on their website or Facebook page as they do offer open practices at times throughout the year.
